What Do You Like To Do In Norway For Fun?

July 12th, 2009 · 1 Comment

I am looking for input from any of my readers out there who live in Norway or have visited Norway. I want to put together some articles with some fun things to do while in Norway from people who have actually done that. I would like anything from fun tourists attractions, to shows to fun bars to go to. Please email me or leave your suggestions in a comment below. Thank you!

In summertime one should definitely visit the islands in Oslofjorden. Hovedøya and Gressholmen are my favourites. A few minutes boatride, and you get to see a new side of Oslo. Gressholmen has beautiful nature. On Hovedøya you will find a piece of history – ruins of an old monastery and more. It’s hard to believe you’re only a few minutes away from the busy streets of Oslo.

And if you like kokosboller (sorry, I don’t know what to call it in english), visit “Den Lille Kokosbollefabrikken”. There is one at Grünerløkka and one at Sagene.

Oslo has a museum which is also a mausoleum. Their webpage claims it’s “one of Oslo’s best kept secrets”, and I agree! It’s a dark room with beautiful frescos on the walls and roof. It’s one giant piece of art! Naked people – it describes life from beginning to end. Emanuel Vigeland Museum (he’s the brother of Gustav Vigeland who made the sculptures in Vigelandsparken). His ashes is in an urn inside the museum.

Norsk Folkemuseum at Bygdøy is worth a visit. It’s an outdoor museum.
