Working holidays can help you to learn about new cultures and experience new destinations while still affording to have some fun. This second part of the series is about some more unusual and exotic jobs you can find overseas.
Here I will try and inspire your creative flow with some very different job options for working while traveling the world. If these ideas stimulate you to think of any of your own unusual job ideas for working holidays, please let me know! Sharing is caring
Work on a cruise ship!
There is no better way to see many different places all over the world and enjoying yourself than working on a cruise ship.
I remember at one time I really desperately wanted to work on a cruise ship for some time just to experience different places, people and cultures. I tried really hard to find out how to get a job on a cruise ship and had no success at all. It was actually really disappointing.
So, you are probably saying, “why is she even mentioning it if it is so difficult to get a job on a cruise ship?”. Well, I was so excited to find something that fixed that problem and actually makes it possible to get that dream job on a cruise line. It is a great ebook called “Get a cruise ship job“. It is so cool because it is a digital download, you can get it right online and start looking for jobs immediately.
The reason I am telling you about this is because I tried really hard to find out how to become employed on a cruise ship with absolutely NO success. After I read this book, I was so happy to see that someone who knows how to do it is helping others find success in the cruise industry too (it was just a little to late for me to do it though:( ).
I always just thought it would be so cool to work on a cruise ship, make a bunch of friends, have your food and housing paid for (since you sleep on board) and go to amazing places. A travelers dream.
Now getting an amazing travel job like this is possible if you read this ebook and get all of the tips and suggestions of someone who has actually done it and succeeded. I am sure it is possible without the ebook too, I just never figured out how. But if anyone does, please let me know! There are many people out there that would love that information!
Work in the Australian Outback!
There is no better way to change up your daily grind than to get an exotic job like working in the Australian Outback. This kind of job is something that could really take you away from your normal routines and give you some true cultural change.
If you are the person who likes to work with horses, cattle and sheep you might have a great time down under in Australia working on a farm in the Outback. They also have jobs on the farm ranging from driving the tractors to maintinence and fencing.
But if you are more like me and real down-and-dirty farm work does not sound like fun to you, you can also find some great jobs doing Hospitality work in the Outback as well. These jobs are usually also on host farms, but I would think are a little more my taste if I were to do this!
You can check out the website Visit Oz for all of the different kinds of available positions and pay rates. I think it would be so cool though, to change things up for a little while and take a ‘working’ break and go experience in the Outback! Visitoz.org can help hook you up to all of the great jobs you could do in Australia, so check them out!
So, one thing to remember whether you want to get a job on a cruise ship or in the Austrualian Outback, there are so many types of positions available that anyone of any skill/education level. No special skills or training are required. And I believe (I could be wrong though) that both types of work will give you the training needed.
So, get up from that desk….and give yourself a chance to do something new! You wont regret it!
Still more to come in this series about working holidays. Don’t miss it!

That is quite an interesting one. Opportunity to see the world and meet tons of people from different walks of life. I wouldn’t mind getting such if I am a bit younger.

Actually, cruise ship jobs are not as wonderful as they may sound. My brother worked on a ship for a year, under contract, and found his initial excitement of worldwide travel undermined by the very harsh conditions on board. Very little sleep, inadequate food, poor treatment, low wages etc etc. He mentioned that he had had a difficult time getting hired since employers were more favorable towards filipinos and some other nationality I can’t remember (he’s white), cause they are more resistant to crappy work situations. Like the Mexicans that come to the US.
You don’t get a lot of time to explore once you land somewhere, and when you do, you’re exhausted.

Just got off a cruise ship. The bartender told me he has a nine month contract, works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and makes about $2,000 a month, not including tips. He sends 75% home to his wife and kids. He sees little of the places he goes. He is from India and said he could never make that much at home.

$2000 dollars a month is great money for India but horrible for an American bartender.
