The kindness of strangers

October 16th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I have noticed something here in Norway since I have arrived that is much different that what I am used to back in LA. It is that when walking around the city as a pedestrian, cars always brake for you. It surprises me every time.

Also, I have observed many times someone running to catch a bus, and the bus driver either stops and lets them on, or will just sit there and wait for them (and in some cases it has seemed to be a little excessive - at least to me). I have never seen public transportation wait for the passengers! Its unusual, but sweet :)

Politeness seems to be almost a religion here in Norway…but its not a bad thing, is it?

Interesting observation and I’m glad you’ve experience the good side - maybe also it tells a bit of the positive way you look at life :-)
