Okay, so I know that it is high time to tell you all about my vacation to Rome, Italy! So here is the first part about my trip to Rome:)
Since we found cheap airline tickets about six hours before we actually left, we had very little time to find our accommodations in Rome. Rome is known for its high prices (which we were much more prepared for since we were coming from Norway…who has ridiculously high prices) we thought we would be used to paying so much for everything. I quickly realized that Rome was going to be shockingly expensive while trying to find our last minute accommodations in the city.
After a very long time searching the internet for cheap accommodations in Rome…we began to just look for ANY place to stay in Rome. The city seemed to be packed, and the only available accommodations were in five star hotels – which was obviously out of the question.
So finally, we found the Hotel Giada. The Hotel Giada is a three star hotel located in a very central place in the city of Rome. When we arrived at the airport in Rome, we took the train that goes to the city center, which took about a half an hour. Then we got off the train and knew we were just a few blocks from our hotel so we had planned on walking there.
Well, when we stepped out of the train station, it was not bright and sunny…to say the least….it was a total downpour of rain. I can not remember the last time I have seen such rain. It was POURING.
So after just a few seconds walking in the rain we were already soaking wet and about five minutes later when we got to the street that our hotel was on we were so happy that we were almost there. So we looked around for the building numbers to see what way to go. We were at something like number 130 and our hotel is number 9. It was not a short walk in that downpour, but it became funny after about ten minutes.
But everything was fine, we arrived safely and our hotel surprised us at how nice it was.
I had originally looked for hostels to stay at in Rome, but at the time that I was searching, all of the hostels cost the same amount as the hotels that were available, which I thought was weird because hostels are supposed to be cheaper than hotels – aren’t they? If we were to stay at a hostel, then we would have had to share a room with something like eight other people. Plus we would have had to share a bathroom and that kind of thing. When we found this hotel, we were sure that because we were going to have our own room and it was the same price as a hostel that we would have a shared bathroom. I was so happily surprised to find a very clean, nice room (not so big…but really, not too small either) with its own bathroom. The room had these huge windows that you could open to like a central area that felt very “European” and very “Roman” to me. It was very cool.
The Hotel Giada serves breakfast. They call it a ‘traditional English breakfast’. I would call it ‘toast and jelly’.

But all in all, we were thrilled to have our very own private room, bathroom and big windows. Plus the hotel is just five minutes walk from the metro which takes you to all the major sites and places you would want to go. We were very happy with where we stayed, and I would recommend the Hotel Giada as a nice place to stay while in Rome.

Planning a trip to Rome in the Fall.
The link in post for Hotel Giada links to a Florence hotel of the same name.
I found this for a Rome hotel of same name. Is this where you stayed?

Thanks for the tip about the Hotel Giada! Rome is on my places to travel to, so I’ll add the hotel to my list as well. Cheap is good.
