Just when you think you’ve got something down, guess what? Of course you don’t! And I hope that one day I will not be writing about this topic anymore…but seriously, I think I now am declaring war between me and the household appliances here in Norway.
The one that I thought I’d really made peace with is the washing machine. Yesterday I had two loads of laundry to do, so I did one and hung it up and waited to leave to put the second one in so I could hang it to dry when I got back home.
Well, one thing that the person who owns the apartment I am staying in right now is very uptight about is turning off all the lights. So I am very good about always turning off all the lights.
So I put my second load of laundry in and turned off all of the lights and left the house. A few hours later when I returned, I went to get my clothes so I could hang them to dry. I opened the washing machine and water came pouring out. Like all the water was still in there. Yet another unexpected mess to fix.
So I asked my friend if I pressed the wrong buttons on the machine and why it didn’t finish the cycle. And he was like “did you turn off the lights?” and I was like “DUH because we will be murdered in our sleep by the-unnamed-owner-of-the-apartment if we don’t turn off all of the lights. Of course I did.” and my friend said “well, when you turn off the lights in the bathroom it shuts off ALL of the electricity in there. Just turn them back on.” A little detail he forgot to mention before.
So another catastrophe with the washing machine, but at least I pressed the right buttons :) and I really do know how to work it now (I think).
