New inventions that I have never thought of!

October 16th, 2007 · No Comments

Since moving here to Norway, I have heard of some new inventions that had never occurred to me before living in LA where the weather is always nice and warm. For example, I read that here in Norway (I don’t know where at the moment) they have heated sidewalks for the cold winter days.

Or like having tile floors throughout an apartment (like one I looked at) but the apartment is heated from the floor. Or you can have a garage heater, where on the freezing days where everything outside is ice and snow, have it warm and heated in your garage! Now there’s a bright idea!

I think what I would enjoy the most about having a heater in my garage is that (if in my dreamland I had a car here in Norway) when you get home from a long day out and the car is covered in ice and snow, just turn on the heater and melt it all off! Pretty cool.

Since the weather is turning much colder these days, I know that if I had a car here in Oslo, that (especially in the coming months) not having to start your car when its practically frozen would seem to me to be almost a necessity.

I know one person who lives in Norway and had mentioned the “dreaded pinging noise” that her car makes when she starts it when the temperature gets to a certain low. I bet she would love to get into her car in the mornings to take her kids to school and not have to worry about the noise, because of her nice toasty warm garage to start her car in on those freezing days.

And speaking of that friend, she has three kids (one of which is an infant) and I’m sure its not very much fun scraping ice and melting snow to get into the car in the mornings with them. She could definitely use the garage heaters. I bet it would be much simpler to get the family off and going in the mornings being able to load the car with all of the kids and everything that goes with them with a warm comfortable space to do it in!
