Movies And Cinemas In Munich

April 12th, 2010 · 6 Comments

When you move to a new city, it is always important to find out where the movie theaters are. We have found all movie theatres in Munich which show movies in their original language.

There are four cinemas in Munich which show movies in English, and so far I have been to two of them.

The first movie we went to see was the movie ‘Percy Jackson and the olympians’. We went to the movie theatre called Museum Lichtspiele Cinemas.  It was funny when we entered because it was so small inside. There was a counter where they sold all the typical movie snacks and drinks (but of course, since were in Munich they also sell beer there). There was one girl behind the counter who sold the tickets and all of the snacks and drinks. She was moving fast, and did her job.

At this cinema, there are four theatres (each with their own intresting theme ‘design’. Ours was ’starwars’). In the theatre there are about 10 rows of seats with about 5 seats across. It was very small and cozy, but funny it was so small. It looked to me like the ‘theatre rooms’ that the rich and famous celebs have on the MTV show cribs. Not like a real movie theatre that you would go to. But still it was cute.

One thing we noticed when we entered into the cinema was that they showed movies with “Dolby Digital Stereo Sound”. Not surround sound, which is what I am used to in movie theatres. We thought that was funny. And when you walk in you see a wall with many movie posters on it. And above it it say “COMING SOON (probably)”. It was SO hilarious…I did take a picture of it, but I cant find it right now.

So we watched Percey Jackson with the ’stero’ sound in the cinema with many movies that were PROBABLY coming soon. :) We really enjoyed it and it was a cozy, homey feeling.

I would go back there again. It was a fun experience. Not quite what i am used to but, it was still good.

Then we went to the cinema in Munich called Cinema :) This theatre has only one theatre, but it is really big. Almost like a normal theatre (that I am used to). BUT one thing that I HATED at this cinema was that the seats were all level. There was no graduation or slope so that it is easy to see over the persons head in front of you. It is all the same level, and I did not like that at all.

At Cinema, we watched the movie “How to train your dragon” in 3D. This was a super cute movie, and the good thing about Cinema is that they have movies in 3D (since so many have come out in 3D latley). This theater also had “Dolby Stero” and not surround sound. Funny.

I personally would prefer to go back to the first movie theatre instead of Cinema (because I hated how the seating was done). But it is good that both places are showing movies in English.

I have found the four cinemas in Munich which show movies in English/original version. You have to look through their websites because not all the movies they show are English. Some things you can look for next to the movie titles to know if they are show in English is it will either say (eng) or OV (which stands for original version). And those movies should be in English.

Although movies come out much later in Europe than when they are released in America, I am happy to find movie theatres I can go to here in Munich!

This post is really cute, you are truly nice, even though there are huge differences because you are used to a much better cinemas before you move there but still you emphasize more on the nice things about the cinemas there, and because of this I want to experience it for myself. I hope I can visit Munich too.

It sounds like culture shock, but interesting in a good way. We loved How To Train Your Dragon- I think it is a great movie for all ages.

I’m an avid movie goer, I have to watch at least one no matter anywhere in the world.

The small theater you described sounds just like an artsy little place I go to see foreign movies in Cleveland. While I love the comfort/luxury of the mega-movie houses, they are not in the business of showing little (budget) movies! Small, independent theaters are neat, but a dying breed around here I’m afraid.

Hi! I was also there at the “Cinema” Movie Theater. I hated the fact that all seats are at the same level XD I watched “Inception” there. I would say it’s a 7 because of the seats, but I think It was a good experience =D
