See pictures from the party here!
Last Saturday we had a party to celebrate Lithuania’s Independence Day and the new news website we have built for Lithuanians living in Norway (lietuvis.no).
It was held at our language school here in Oslo, and we were quite surprised at how many people came! There was a presentation of the new website, a short movie and a lot of dancing. I had a lot of fun, and everyone else seemed to as well.
One thing I have learned in my two visits to Lithuania is that Lithuanians always have tons of food around. It doesnt matter if it is for a big party or if you just stopped by their house, you can be sure that there will be a feast. And I have to say, they did not disappoint once again.
We actually did not even provide food at the party, we just put out four long tables and as soon as people started showing up, the food came pouring in.
It is so funny to me how automatic it is for them to bring so much food with them. Without being told to bring anything, an hour or two after the party started four long tables were overflowing with food and drinks (including tons of alcohol). Its really amazing to me!
This is obvieousally their culture to do this, and it is really neat to see. In my ‘culture’ the only time the guests of the party bring that much food and drinks with them is when the invitation says “potluck” or “BYOB…and food!”. :)
