The first real sightseeing I got to do while in Lithuania was when we went to see the famous Trakai Island Castle. It is interesting because when I would research Lithuania on the internet while I was in Norway, I would always see the picture of this castle. It seems to be one of the most popular tourist attractions.

Unfourtunately while I was there visiting the sun was setting, so in addition to having a camera that was not working well, there was very bad lighting. So I will
put a few of my pics on here but they do not do the scenery justice because it was so beautiful there.
It was pretty cold the day that we went, but I am told that in the summer it is really a great time to visit the castle because it is located on an island and in the lake
you can rent row boats, paddle boats and sail boats and go around the lake in them. And if it is really hot you can go swimming in the lake if you want.
A few of the pictures I am putting on here are just of the scenery around. It was such a beautiful sunset on a fall day.

The construction of the stone castle was begun in the 14th century by Kestutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430. Trakai was one of the main centers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the castle held great strategic importance.
