I went to the immigration department today in Oslo, Norway to see if and how to get a residence permit to be able to stay here. There are always many challenges with this type of stuff, but I was pleasantly surprised! Today when I went, the people were more than helpful and gave me all the help and information that I was looking for. I was surprised because I expected a nightmare (from what I hear from other people) but it was easy.
Norway earns extra points in my book for this kind of thing! Good job Norway!

I really like your site I try to check it about once a week if I can. I’m planning on visitin Norway this summer. Who knows if I like it I may stay. Though seeing your blog I can tell it won’t be a piece of cake. I would definately like to see more on topics like this one. If I move I would be totally lost on where to go to and what to do about staying there legally and finding a job. Feel free to email me. When I fly to Norway this July I will be landing in Oslo so who knows maybe I can drop in and say hi to a fellow american!

Wow so you can just get a residence permit like that? Here you can’t get a permit while you’re in the country. You have to go back to the US. I heard a lot of stories about Norway being near impossible to get into. I guess I heard wrong!

so glad your experience was better than mine. i had already gotten my permit before i came to norway but it was still a very frustrating experience, especially concerning my application for a personnummer.

Hei!
I am in a very similar situation as you and moved to Oslo from Australia in July 07. I would be so interested in hearing about your visa situation as I applied over 4 months ago from Norway and am still waiting. Your blog is great and I can really tell what you are going through :) Are you here for love or work??
Good luck with it all.
Emilie
