It is fairly easy for an American to go to Norway…it is just if you want to stay that you will run into problems. As an American, moving to Norway permanently is fairly difficult unless you have a job offer or are getting married to a Norwegian. But the good news is that if you are a citizen of a EU country, going to Norway and living there is very easy. As an EU citizen, you can actually move to Norway with your spouse and children and work legally. There is still paperwork and legal stuff involved, but it is very simple compared to the hassle that an American moving to Norway will encounter.
If you are not an EU citizen, you will need to have a visa to stay in Norway for longer than 90 days within a 6 month period of time. You must get this visa BEFORE you arrive in Norway from your home country (and this could take quite a long time…so be prepared and plan far in advance whenever possible).
