I think that most people love to travel. But I know that many people (especially Americans – because they work so much) do not take the time to go and really see the world. I feel personally, that this is soul crime. To not let yourself go, experience and breathe in new places the world is truly cheating yourself of enjoying life how you should be.
The world is your playground! But you can’t have any fun unless you get out from behind that desk and go see it!
I have never been so ‘stuck’ and miserable as when I had to sit at a desk from 9-5 Monday thru Friday, year after year. There is no joy in that type of life. Variety is the spice of life, and to fully appreciate it you need to change things ups from time to time. Most people need to work to live, but we should all stop living to work!
After I graduated high-school, I went to Seoul, South Korea for three months to teach English. It was one of the most amazing and enriching experiences in my life. I am so thankful that I took that time to go and experience other cultures and places in the world. I feel that that time in Korea really changed me and help me to know who I really am.
The benefits of taking even just a little time out from your daily routine are immeasurable. The experiences that could be waiting for you are priceless.
Soooo… the good news is that there are so many options to experience new places without sacrificing your total financial security. You can travel the world and work at the same time. Most seasonal jobs for travelers require little or no experience. Now, all you have to do is find that seasonal job abroad!
If you have ever wanted to shake things up a bit, now is a better time than ever to get a job overseas and have a working holiday! Here are the most common (and easiest to find) jobs that people get on their working holidays. A search on google for “working holiday + country of your choice” or “seasonal work + country of your choice” can really help you to find what jobs are available in the country you want to visit. Or you can start here, with these suggestions!
What kind of jobs can I get overseas for a working holiday?
The Hospitality Industry:
- Hotels
- Hostels
- Waiting Tables
- Bar tending
- Cooking
- Busing tables/Washing dishes (at local restaurants, bars and coffee houses)

Harvest Work:

Office Work:
- Find temp agencies around the world for seasonal employment for office jobs
Au Paring:
- In places where people have money to spend, you can always find a need for Au Pairs.
There are so many options all over the world to have a great working holiday. The ones that I listed here are just a few of the most common seasonal jobs that you can get overseas to give you some ideas of what is out there. Don’t be afraid, go ahead a dream a little. Do some searches on google, and see what comes up. You never know what could happen unless you give it a chance!
Your life is in your hands and it is up to you what to do! The world is your playground, have fun!
This is the first of a series I will be writing about working holidays, how to travel the world and support yourself (financially) as you go, and finding seasonal jobs in foreign countries. Up next: Unusual and exotic jobs while traveling the world and experiencing new cultures.

Americans are much too busy at life to travel. Personally, I just traveled to France for the first time. It was amazing.
