I arrived in Lithuania last night around 12:30PM. We took Air Baltic and it was about two hours long. It wasn’t a very long flight at all but it was a good one.
My friends family was there to greet us after only a little delay at passport control where the man with a very heavy accent said “where are your papers, what are you doing here?” After I asked him to repeat what he said because I did not understand it the first time I answered, “I don’t have any papers and I am on vacation for a week.” To which he yelled, “what are you doing here, where are your papers?”. I said, “I’m just visiting and I’m on vacation for a week”. Then he stormed out of his little booth with my passport and went to another one and stamped my passport and said I could go through. I was thinking, hmmm….thats the most interesting welcome I’ve ever had to a new country! So then we were greeted as I said, by my friends family. His mom and his dad (who apparently haven’t seen each other in like 20 years but both were unexpectedly there to greet him. Talk about awkward.
His mom was there to pick us up because we are staying with her the first few days that we are her and since she doesnt have a car her neighbor was nice enough to drive her to come and get us from the airport.
The ride back to the house was an interesting one, I guess I could say. Mostly because I was tiring to guess if the neighbor who was driving us was a)a horrible driver b) tired or c) drunk. It seemed mostly like the answer was “c” but I was trying to avoid thinking about it on the hour drive home.
Well, we made it in one piece. And its beautiful here. It is a very different country but I really like it and am excited to be here. I will keep you updated as much as possible about my trip but we don’t have internet connection so I wont be online very much. If I cant keep you updated while I’me here, then I will fill you in on all the fun stuff when I get back.
