Awareness

November 7th, 2007 · No Comments

This month (the month of November) is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. What does that mean? Well, of course it means its time for your memory screening for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other related illnesses.

If you do not know why it is important for you to get your early detection memory screening then keep reading.

Memory screening for early detection is important for people of all ages for many reasons. For those who have no signs of Alzheimer’s disease or a related illnesses it is important to get a “base line” for comparison to tests you have in the future. For those who show warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease, have a family history of it or whose friends and family have noticed a change in them as far as memory loss and dementia goes, it is especially important to have a memory screening done.

During the month of November, in America we celebrate thanksgiving (I’m going to miss the turkey while I’m in Norway this November!). That is a time to get together with family and celebrate. It is also the perfect opportunity to give your family members a special holiday gift and encourage your loved ones to get a memory screening for early detection for Alzheimer’s and other related diseases. Since it is a time for family, you can even help them out by helping them find a memory screening testing center in their area this month.

And for those who do not show any signs of Alzheimer’s, you can check out Successful Aging at NationalMemoryScreening.org and ALZFDN.org. Tell your friends and family about successful aging. Do things that stimulate your brain like puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading and other mental exercises. Walk for 30 min a day or do some other kind of daily exercise. Being social and having a network of friends also stimulates your brain. Visit your doctor regularly. Eat healthy and get your vitamins. There are so many easy ways to age successfully!

To help out and find a cure you can make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. And it is always good to try and find a cure for this, it is also extremely important to provide quality care for those who have this disease and make sure to not overlook anyone with it either.
